    My Story

My name is Jacob Dietz. This e-potfolio of mine describes my journey of my time at the University of South Carolina through the lessons learned professionally, personally, and educationally. By deciding on my major of Sport and Entertainment Management, I have found my purpose in life and what I aspire to do. I desire to work in Marketing and Operations for a professional sports franchise or organization. I more specifically wish to be a part of the PGA in my desired roles. My e-portfolio will also share my key insights that I have discovered and will carry with me for the rest of my life.

    My Time at USC

I fell in love with sports at a very young age and have grown a larger love for it as they years have passed. I have experienced everything from soccer to ping pong. When I went to apply to the University of South Carolina, I was amazed and excited to see that they offered a sports-related business field. I instantly jumped on applying for Sport and Entertainment Management because of all of the opportunities to work outside the classroom for all of these different sports events. I was also interested in all the different courses they offered. South Carolina uses a list serv through our school email to share all of these opportunities. I was nervous at first that I would not make any friends, and it would be the opposite of how life was in high school. However, that was not the case, and I made lifelong friends instantly in my freshman year dorm, Columbia Hall, and when I joined my fraternity, Phi Kappa Sigma. The friends I made in my dorm all had the same interests as me in sports, which helped a lot. The opportunities outside of the classroom were even more fun because I could do them with my friends. I believe that these opportunities and work experiences have helped me improve my skills and expand my knowledge in the sports world to help me find better job opportunities post-graduation. For instance, instead of learning marketing, I was able to apply what I learned in my internship with the Norwich Sea Unicorns, where I was a Marketing and In-Game Promotions Intern. I also didn't just learn about how the operations of a sports organization work in my event management class. I put what I learned to work at the 2024 and 2025 Masters Tournaments, where I was in Merchandise Operations. What I learn in the classroom is so transferable to the real world, and as a hands-on person, this really helped my learning experience. I also worked at the Players Championship in security and the Wells Fargo Championship doing serving. Besides some of these experiences, I was required to do two internships at South Carolina. My first internship was mentioned before with the Norwich Sea Unicorns, which is a Collegiate Summer Baseball team in the FCBL as a Marketing and In-Game Promotions Intern. My second Internship was with Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort, where I was a Recreation Intern. As this final internship comes to an end, I can't help but look back and see all that I accomplished when I was at the University of South Carolina. I truly utilized all the time I had to better find myself. At the top of my e-portfolio, there will be two other tabs with one having my "Key Insights" and "Leadership".
